This was led by Henk and Margaret Stoffers and the earliest committee consisted of Don Mason, Ken Fleay, Ted and Wally Anderson, Mark and Margaret Pritchard, Doreen Dow and Trevor and Therese Smith.
The club is a family orientated running and walking club striving to enhance the wellbeing of the community by providing access to inclusive running and walking activities. The club has assisted hundreds of members achieve their running goals, particular Half and Full Marathons.
The club originally held time trial events 5/10km every Thursday evening at various locations around Bunbury including the Maidens Reserve, Hay Park and Catholic College Oval.
In 1992 the club moved to the current location at the Recreation Ground, initially an old soccer building (demolished) and then the current Eastman Pavilion. The club has hosted over 40 Marathon and Half Marathon events and is one of the few clubs in Australia which has continuously hosted these distance running events.
Whilst we have many leading distance runners in the club, any person seeking the camaraderie of like minded runners will benefit from being part of this friendly welcoming club.
Over the years the club has recognized key people in the club by naming events or awards after them.
Henk Stoffers Handicap - A series of 5handicap events recognising runners who have achieved improvement over the previous 12 months.
John and Alma Gilmore – Club Championship Award recognising the contribution to Running in WA of John Gilmore a patron of the BRC
Steve and Marilyn Jones – Club Handicap award – recognising the contribution of Steve(Life Member) Jones and Marilyn for their contribution to the BRC
The Brian Kennedy Parlouf Relay – a fun event in recognition of 'BK' a club stalwart who gave a never ending contribution to the BRC in particular juniors.
The Kieran Boothman Run – The Watchless run – established to recognise the exploits of previous members who have passed.
